George Cyr, coordinator for Connecticut's American Revolution Bicentennial Commission (in costume) with Mrs. K. Maydea (left) and Chester Rossiwal, newly naturalized citizens, joined with Hartford Mayor George Athanson to raise the flag at the Old State House during the country's bicentennial celebration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in June 1976. 

Today, the library's The American Place together with the Hartford History Center host federal naturalization ceremonies throughout the year. This special program welcomes people to the city and to its public library and reinforces one of Hartford's greatest strengths - its cultural diversity.
